CASL Compliance

How LocalPageUp Canada complies with Canada's Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL)

What is CASL?

Canada's Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL) is one of the world's strictest anti-spam laws. It governs the sending of commercial electronic messages (CEMs) — including SMS text messages and emails — to recipients in Canada.

At LocalPageUp Canada, we take CASL compliance seriously. Every outreach we conduct is designed to meet or exceed CASL's requirements.

How We Obtain Consent

We use an express consent model for all SMS communications. Here's exactly how it works:

Step 1 — Initial Voice Contact

When we identify a business that may benefit from our services, our automated system places a single informational call to the business's publicly listed phone number. The call informs the business owner that we have built a free demo website for them.

Step 2 — Press-1 Consent Event

During the call, the business owner is explicitly asked to press 1 if they wish to receive a text message with their demo website link. This keypress constitutes express consent under CASL.

✓ We never send SMS without a prior press-1 consent event. No consent = no SMS. This is non-negotiable.

Step 3 — Consent Logging

Every consent event is logged in our database with a timestamp, the phone number, and the method of consent (press-1 voice call). These records are retained for a minimum of 3 years.

Step 4 — SMS Delivery

Only after consent is recorded do we send a single SMS containing the demo website link. Every SMS includes a clear STOP instruction.

Unsubscribe Mechanism

Every SMS we send includes the instruction: "Reply STOP to unsubscribe."

When a recipient replies STOP, they are immediately added to our suppression list and will never receive another SMS from LocalPageUp Canada. This is processed automatically and takes effect immediately.

You may also unsubscribe via our online unsubscribe form or by contacting us directly.

What We Send

After obtaining consent, we may send the following types of messages:

We do not sell, rent, or share your phone number with any third parties.

Any email communications we send include:

Unsubscribe requests from email are processed within 10 business days, as required by CASL.
